A core Medical Director duty is verifying — and documenting — that every provider is appropriately licensed and credentialed for the services they deliver, within their Florida scope. That means confirming active status, checking for relevant restrictions, tracking expirations, and escalating promptly when a credential problem is found.

What should be verified in provider credentialing?
Provider license verification through the Florida Department of Health, active status, any relevant restrictions or disciplinary history, scope compatibility with the services delivered, and any certifications the role requires — for employed and contracted providers alike.
How are expiring credentials kept current?
Credentials expire. The Medical Director oversees expiration tracking so no provider is delivering services on a lapsed or restricted license.
Why must credential verification be documented?
Verification only counts if it is documented — the credential file should show what was checked, when, and by whom, ready for an AHCA survey.
What does the director do when a credential problem surfaces?
When a credential issue surfaces — a lapse, restriction, or scope mismatch — the director acts: pause the affected activity where appropriate, document, and correct.
